A REVIEW OF HALOTHERAPY FOR CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE
A review using systematic approach and narrative synthesis, to critically evaluate and summarize the evidence for the use of halotherapy as a treatment for COPD. [By Rashleigh R, Smith SM, Roberts NJ]

POPULAR ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES THAT ARE NONSENSE
There᾿s no detoxifiying or healing property that comes with sitting in a salt cave, despite a number of Russian studies that say there is. Russia is home to a number of natural salt caves, and it᾿s only right that the creators of this therapy would defend their work in scientific journals. Sadly for the salt caves of Russia, these studies aren᾿t randomized and have never been published in a legitimate, English-language journal. They᾿ve also never been repeated, a vital element of a good scientific study. In fact, there᾿s some evidence that salt caves might be harmful to those with asthma...

CHAPTER 29: UNPROVED AND CONTROVERSIAL METHODS AND THEORIES IN ALLERGY-IMMUNOLOGY
Unproved methods and controversial theories in the diagnosis and management of allergy-immunology are those that lack scientific credibility... Unproven treatments and intervention methods for allergic-immunologic conditions include acupuncture, homeopathy (“likes cure likes”), halotherapy, and autologous urine injections. [Review article in “Allergy & Asthma Proceedings”, Vol. 33 No 3, May-June 2012].

SALT THERAPY
There has been a boom in recent years in the availability of “salt therapy” (halotherapy/speleopathy), an alternative therapy method which claims to benefit respiratory health... [by The Lung Foundation Australia]

AAFA EXPLAINS: IS SALT THERAPY SAFE AND EFFECTIVE FOR ASTHMA?
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatments usually do not go through the same rigorous scientific research as new drugs and medical procedures. As a result, whether or not CAM works (called efficacy) is unproven for most treatments. Salt therapy – such as salt rooms, caves or lamps – falls into that category... [by The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America]

HOMEOPATHY “TREATMENTS” MUST BE LABELLED TO SAY THEY DO NOT WORK, US GOVERNMENT ORDERS
The Federal Trade Commission has demanded that producers of homeopathic treatments say on the label that they do not work. There is a huge market in the US for homeopathic remedies. In 2007 alone, it was estimated Americans spent more than $3bn on a controversial system of alternative medicine created in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, and which has long been dismissed by mainstream science.

FDA: HOMEOPATHIC TEETHING GELS MAY HAVE KILLED 10 BABIES, SICKENED 400
Last month, the Food and Drug Administration warned parents to stop using homeopathic teething gels and tablets, which may have been improperly diluted. Yesterday the agency said it is investigating 10 infant deaths and more than 400 reports of seizures, fever, and vomiting that may be connected to the use of the teething treatments in the past six years.

STATEMENT OF PROTEST BY THE HOLY ORTHODOX METROPOLIS OF GLYFADA AGAINST THE INTRODUCTION OF MARTIAL ARTS IN SCHOOLS
Since it came to our attention that the Ministry of Education has issued an official document[1] whereby it grants an authorisation that permits the introduction of martial arts (Ju-Jitsu in particular) in primary schools throughout the country, we would like to express our vigorous objections on this matter... In light of all the above, we call upon the body of the Orthodox Church to abstain from any involvement in the martial arts and we expect the competent authorities in the Ministry of Education to take any necessary steps for the immediate revocation of the granted authorisation.[From the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Vari (Varkiza)]

INDICATIVE QUESTIONS AND REMARKS ON THE FORTHCOMING HOLY AND GREAT COUNCIL
The Holy and Great Council, which is currently under preparation and expected to convene in 2016, has been referred to as a “Pan-Orthodox Council”, although some learned scholars maintain that it should actually be called “Ecumenical”. Setting aside this difference in theological perspective, we would hereby like to submit a few questions. The first crucial question is this: how appropriate and necessary is the summoning of such a council today? [Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Glyfada]

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE HOLY ORTHODOX METROPOLIS OF GLYFADA REGARDING THE FORTHCOMING CELEBRATION OF THE FIRST “INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA”
The day of the summer solstice, a festive day for sorcerers, occultists and satanists has been selected for the annual celebration of the “International Day of Yoga”. According to a resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations (Plenary Meeting of December 2104), the 21st of June has been proclaimed “International Day of Yoga”. The rationale behind this resolution was that “yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being”; furthermore, it was claimed that it is “beneficial for the health of the world population”! However, this explanation is in conflict both with the Orthodox Christian perspective and with scientific evidence.[From the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Glyfada]

NEOPATRISTIC, METAPATRISTIC AND CONTEXTUAL “THEOLOGY”
As one studies the texts of the Holy Bible and the Fathers, one realizes that the basis of Orthodox theology is God᾽s revelation - as given to the Prophets, the Apostles and the Fathers - throughout the ages.[by the Reverend Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Saint Vlassios, Fr. Hierotheos Vlachos]

THE HOLY SYNOD OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH OF GREECE ON YOGA
The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Greece brings to the attention of its devout members that: “Yoga” is a fundamental sector of the religion of Hinduism; it comprises a variety of schools, disciplines, practices and trends and IS NOT a “type of physical exercise”.

NOTIFICATION ABOUT ENCYCLICAL № 2819
In response to recent publications about a Church Encyclical concerning organ donation, we would like to notify faithful Christians and every citizen concerned about the following:

REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology theory alleges that reflex points on the foot, hand or ear correspond to areas of the body and/or organs. Charts with organs superimposed on the foot, hand or ear allege to map these points. This monograph refers only to foot reflexology, but can be used to infer to all types. Using the chart as a guide, the practitioner probes the theorized reflex points and questions the client...
